The database can be synchronized between the ptsNotes S60 and the ptsNotes Windows.
The mobile phone has to be recognized by the Nokia PC Suite before starting this operation.
Following list explains the flow of establishing synchronization pair. The database of ptsNotes Windows is constructed from the database of ptsNotes S60 as an example in this story.
Synchronization of the ptsNotes database between the Windows PC and mobile phone is completed by above steps. Synchronized information is recorded in both databases. Next synchronization performs based on this information by invoking 'Sync Now' menu or 'Sync Device' menu item of 'Device Management' window.
Please read "Copy DB from device" in above example as "Copy DB to device" when you make the database on the Windows PC first.
The ptsNotes copies notes data in an appropriate manner in usual synchronization. However if same data entry of both side are altered before the synchronization, the ptsNotes Windows can not judge which data should be copied automatically. This condition is called "Conflict", and the judgment is always entrusted to the user.
Even if different note is edited by Windows PC and the mobile phone, it doesn't become a conflict condition because each note individually has synchronous information. However, it is sure to become a conflict condition when making of new notes on both side. In this case, both new notes can be continued by pressing "Duplicate" button on the conflict window.
There is only one synchronous information for the tags. If rename, addition and the deletion of the tag name are done somehow by both Windows PC and the mobile phone, it is sure to become a conflict condition. When a complex change twines, contradiction might be caused between tag information and the notes. Please synchronize promptly when you change tags information.
Both ptsNotes Windows and ptsNotes S60 can maintain up to eight synchronous partners.
The database of ptsNotes Windows can synchronize with up to eight mobile phones. The mobile phone is identified by serial number (IMEI). And the information can be confirmed on "Device Management" window.
The ptsNotes S60 can also register eight databases as a synchronous target. The ptsNotes S60 identifies the other party by the computer name of Windows and the database folder. Therefore, it is possible to become a synchronous target that different database folder on same Windows PC. The information can be confirmed on "Host Management" screen on the ptsNotes S60.
The addition of the new synchronous other party is done only at "Copy DB to Device" or "Copy DB from device".
The copy of the database fails if eight synchronous other parties already exist when try to add a new synchronous other party. If there is unused synchronous other party, the addition of the new synchronous other party becomes possible by deleting the information by using "Device Management" window or "Host Management" screen.
